ProLogis Leases 200,000 Square Feet in Japan
- Two New Customers Will Occupy Space At ProLogis Parc Zama I, A Newly Developed Distribution Facility Completed in June 2009 -
TOKYO, July 21 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- ProLogis (NYSE: PLD), a leading global provider of distribution facilities, announced today it signed two new lease agreements during the second quarter of 2009 totaling 200,000 square feet (18,600 square meters) for recently developed distribution space at ProLogis Parc Zama I in Japan.
"We are very pleased to announce continued lease activity at ProLogis Parc Zama I, especially considering we just completed construction of the building at the end of June," said Mike Yamada, president of Japan for ProLogis. "The distribution facility has many energy-efficient systems - including a photovoltaic array and a state-of-the-art seismic isolation structure - and is in a prime location with convenient access to the greater Tokyo and greater Nagoya areas."
The transactions included leases with: SEI Logistics Network Co., Ltd., a major Japanese third-party logistics provider, which leased approximately 134,000 square feet (12,500 square meters); and Kawataki Co., Ltd., a leading household goods company in Japan, which leased approximately 66,000 square feet (6,100 square meters).
The city of Zama is a central logistics hub in Japan's Kanagawa Prefecture. ProLogis Parc Zama I is a 1.2-million-square-foot (113,300-square-meter) distribution facility strategically located 25 miles from downtown Tokyo along Route 246, a major north-south highway, and the Tomei Expressway, a high-speed motorway that connects to Tokyo, Nagoya and Osaka. The park also is near a commuter train station, which provides access to the area's well-qualified workforce. Additional ProLogis customers in the building include Arata Co., Ltd., a wholesale distributor and third-party logistics provider, which leases 190,000 square feet (17,600 square meters).
ProLogis is one of the largest providers of distribution space in Japan with approximately 8.2 million square feet (761,500 square meters) of distribution space, as well as 98 acres (390,000 square meters) of land available for future development. Major ProLogis customers in Japan include Yamato Logistics, Konoike Transport, Costco, Daikin Industries, Sanyo Electric Logistics and Kintetsu World Express.
